NOVA AETAS

choreographic installation for two dancers

CHOREOGRAPHER’S NOTE

In an atmosphere which is dramaturgically fed by the strength of  an installation composed by 1000 logs, the audience captures the choreography as something that also takes place outside the venue. I worked with the venue globally so that the scenic space itself will appear as a place of completion and retreat of acts. The choreographic score of «Nova Aetas» has been built by the inner movements of the dancers. A duet that is not guided by any individuality and that is transformed by the abstraction of gesture with a simple dramaturgical line which will lead the movement and the sound in a progressive intensity. I tried to avoid the representation of feelings or symbols and aimed to reach the e-motion through the repeated movement of the body. The practicality which is demanded by someone in order to repeat something again and again, made me reach a direct and rough type of performance. Then, I experimented isolating the movement further more in the simplest form of repetition through an austere choreographic structure. During the creative process, mainly interested me the dealing of time to lead the audience in a meditative state, in order to create an organic choreographic universe.

ABSTRACT

«Nova Aetas» is a new era, is the tomorrow, which examines how from a world that was transformed into a struggle for survival of the individual, we can recover the vision of utopia. The performance is a metaphor of the cosmos, not the cosmos itself. Even when it seems that nothing happens, everything changes. Everything is under a stable and permanent process of change and evolution. The two dancers seem to represent the course of being inside time, through memory and duration and are in a process of gradual disappearance, heterodeterminated in a process which is not aligned, not linear. The choreography does not raise an issue to define an identity for these two bodies. It only wants us to observe how they change and are transformed dispersed in the time and space of the performance. How they coexist independent one from another inside the rough energy.
