NATURA MORTA (a dance less)

NATURA MORTA (a dance less)

choreographic performance for 2 dancers

CHOREOGRAPHER’S NOTE

Inspiring by the Flemish painters of the 17th century “NATURA MORTA (a dance less)”, is a choreographic work which acts as a reminder of time for the inescapable of human fate. The choreographic score develops in a circular form and the scenic installation, composed by several objects and materials, emphasises the futility of fleeting pleasures while having a kaleidoscopic impact on the choreography. Floating bodies in exile, they seem to experience their relationship with nature and the material world for one last time, as a common guide to their final shelter. So, in the performance, the kinesiological and visual counterpoints between dancers and scenic space, create additively an existential gathering, a tableau vivant in which, “every (hu)man is an island, entire of itself”.

ABSTRACT

Honouring the memory of the composer George Kouvaras, constant collaborator of the company who passed away prematurely, Synthesis 748 Dance Co. presents a work about losses and the vulnerability of the world. “NATURA MORTA (a dance less)”, introduces a liminal space-time in which a dance ritual is unfolds, at times as a modern dirge and at times as an archaic Rave, following an increasing escalation of kinetic intensity. In a post-apocalyptic scenic environment, the two dancers as contemporary shamans, suspended between grief and ecstasy, trauma and healing, pay a last farewell, seeking a moment of eclipse for other possible natures.
