2-AURORA

choreographic performance for 7 dancers

CHOREOGRAPHER’S NOTE

The profound understanding that the water we drink connects us in a cellular way with the plant world, inspired the concept of the work. Observing different flora structures (algae, moss, roots, ferns, grass, flowers, trees) I found that plants depend on many external factors and have developed unique life strategies. It is as they are in a continuous state of emotional and mental hyper-awakening. And their inability to move away, leads them to a search for a less voluntary dance. I therefore wanted to approach the idea of a “vegetable man”, of a body that is not consumed by external skills but carries within it an “internal spectacle”. The kinetic vocabulary cultivates inner qualities to the dancers and creates shapes that seems to be connected by an invisible thread. So, the choreography instead of designing and regulating the form of the work, emerges a spatial vibration.

ABSTRACT

AURORA”, the third part of the choreographic series, “Sacred bodies of a new ecotopia” draws inspiration from the plant world and the book, The three ecologies, of Félix Guattari, examining symbiotic possibilities between nature and civilisation in a time of ecological emergency. Spyros Kouvaras creates a choreographic meta-fiction, a techno-physical place between dream and reality that seems detached from the conventional space-time continuum. In a scenic space where primitive and futuristic elements coexist, the performers imagine a new dawning era. Their bodies seem destined in the perpetuation of their movement and through the constant exchange of sensory interactions between nature and man, they trace an alternative “geology of existence”. “AURORA” is not just a piece for the environment, it is an environment itself. An emerging community of living beings who, approach our cosmos with a poetic of plasticity and imagination, posing reflective questions about the cultural reality we have formed.
