Contemporary Performances / USA
– Does the place where you will be presented with a performance affects the creation of the project ? How different is to compose the choreographic score in an exhibition room where many visual works are exposed ?
– It is always question of a co-existence in space and time through sound and energy. Assuming that the energy of the ”visual work” comes from the inner entity and diffuses outward, while we focus on the same time our attention to the moving body, which is also pushed by an inner vibration outwards, we realize that these two energy lines pulsate each other.
LandEscape Contemporary Art Review: Edition 2017
One of the most impressive aspects of Kouvaras’ work is the way he accomplishes the difficult task of creating timeless spaces, by the creation of situations and fields which are interpreted more by the unconscious and less by the logic.
Danseur / France
A conceptual dance piece of high aesthetic at the limits of the performance art. Placed in a scenic installation, which was extended even out of the stage the minimalistic choreography of Spyros Kouvaras, worked with great precision, in combination with the original music of the performance created an organic relation with the audience, which led us in a hypnotic atmosphere of high tension during 50 minutes. And as the choreographer told us after the performance «in Nova Aetas it is important not to seek to understand what the choreography represents, but initially to call upon your subconscious».
Tanznetz / Germany
Spyros Kouvaras set the dark antithesis with «L’Isolement dans un Espace Infini». Impressive animality in the movement, the gestures of the hands are like hooks, a human being as an artificial Homunculus, vestige of a disaster who wanders aimlessly searching for something. The music of his brother and longtime co-worker, Giorgos Kouvaras, becomes more and more intense, enriched with percussion, with wind instruments, pulses and strings. The blackouts of the lighting become progressively longer and longer to the permanent darkness and even when the choreography remains quit static for a few moments, Kouvaras finally creates the oppressive atmosphere of a limbo.
La Terrasse / France
Spyros Kouvaras and his Company Synthesis 748 is the new revelation of the Greek choreographic landscape during 2010. The young choreographer and dancer who lives and works in Paris, performed during 50 minutes wrapped in tight gelatin, in a high volume, futuristic, scenic space which changed colours constantly. The lightings, projected on his costume material, gave us hallucinatory phenomena and the contemporary, original, music of the work, created an electroacoustic environment which vibrated the stage even at the silent moments of the piece.
Biennale of Performing Arts of Bogota / Colombia
A choreographic installation ? A solo «contemporary dance exhibition» or a conceptual dance piece ? What is for sure, is that «OPUS I # temporality», of Spyros Kouvaras, is an aesthetic work which introduce us, during 47 minutes, a new dance vocabulary in an meditative atmosphere of high concentration.

Spyros Kouvaras is a versatile artist and the results of his choreographic research conveys a coherent sense of unity that rejects any conventional classification.

With intensively characteristics of French minimalism, in 3 mountains not to climb, the choreographic performance of Spyros Kouvaras, the bodies of the dancers build a ritual atmosphere off heresy and drag the audience into the lust of utopia. Thus, beyond any conceptualization, the senses are emphasized as the absolute center of consciousness and existence in a cosmos which is balanced between illusion and reality.

Between the Dionysian universe of Spyros Kouvaras and the world of everyday life, an abyss of oblivion opens. The dance, in “3 mountains not to climb”, is the living fortress against the onslaught of reality.

In OPUS I # temporality, it is not only the composition of the movements that characterizes the choreography but also the moment of the refraction of time as a leap, as a dive into its eternity.

Spyros Kouvaras and his dance company, with the choreographic performance «Anaskamma: Untitled», which takes place at the Monument of Lysicrates near to Acropolis, manages to overcome the commonplace and with a delicate treatment of the kinaesthetic relation between body and archeological space, artfully connects the choreographic language with the natural environment and the visual thematic of the group exhibition Transitions: Space-Time, produced by Owl Art Space gallery.
